Happy Monday Fitfam!! Most of you know I enjoy finding correlations to health / fitness/ and life. Recently I discovered an interesting correlation between the completion of a journal I started back in 2012 and the trajectory of my own physical ,personal, mental, and professional health. I talk about the impact of developing solid habits in your life, but, what I don’t always highlight is how tough the implementation can be. My journal is the epitome of what habit development looks like for most. It’s something I see in the healthy/ active lifestyle regularly.

In anticipation of my my first born I declared I needed to incorporate more structure through positive lifestyle habits. I wanted to start by documenting this process so I challenged myself to journaling daily. This would be the catalyst I needed to branch off into creating the habits I needed to be “successful.” As I completed my last entry (last page of this particular journal) I entered a state of reflection. I reflect fairly often but this was different! I had 9 years of vividly articulated content to reference.
There were several takeaways from this reflection. The most prominent were:
1: I’ve experienced so much growth, however, it was not linear by any means. Several major highs and lows established the foundation of who I am today.
2: Forming new habits can be a massive undertaking. Commitment to writing in a journal in this example went like this...
-
2012 3 entries.
-1 year passed (2013) to accumulate just 2 entries. (2 major entries as it documented the entire process of my first born's adventure to entering this world)
-Nearly 2 years passed and 2015 I began journaling again, sparked by the birth of my second 😇 angel . Again only 2 entries.
-Fast forward to 2018 (Yes! No entries prior to that point) I finally established some consistency. I averaged 2-3 entries a week that year.
-2019-current I journaled nearly every day! It’s safe to say I had a ratio of 80/20. The most interesting aspect of all of this is that my physical, personal, mental/emotional, and business health ascended the moment my journaling became nearly autonomous. This is not random. The development of habits transcends all internal/external influences. There is a direct association to well defined habits and the quality of your health, wellness and life.
Anything we try to achieve takes diligence , commitment and passion. Understand that as you aim to improve any aspect of your life there will be resistance. Very few of us will take a linear path to growth. Perfection is an illusion. There is no pinnacle to success. It is a daily competition with self. Enjoy the process and never give up. Eventually your goals, peace and clarity will be earned.
